Aqeel Abood is a fellow at the Institute of Shia Studies. He earned his BA in philosophy from the University of Baghdad. Following his participation in the 1991 Uprising in Iraq, he spent 18 months in the Iraqi Refugee Camp in Saudi Arabia before resettling in the USA in 1992. He earned an MA in political science from the San Francisco State University. He is currently working on a book manuscript on social movements in post-Saddam Iraq. Among his recent publications is, “The Sadrist Movement: Success in Mobilizing People in Iraq,” Kufa Review (vol. 2, no. 2) 2013.
